I signed contracts yesterday for buying a house and also selling my own house.
The completion date given was one week from signing contracts which will be next Friday. We have being put under a lot of pressure from the buyer of our house to move quickly. I dont have a problem with this but I am worried that our mortgage cheque will not arrive in time and with short notice our moving date will be put forward (I have already got time off work organised. Is it possible to receive cheque so quickly, we have mortgage approval and insurances are in place.Venders are also ready to move. Am I being optimistic?
 
No harm in being optimistic. Keep the pressure on the bank- ring the branch AND the cheque issue dept of the head office. Ring every day, ring twice or three times a day if necessary.

I too am on a tight closing date. I have checked with my bank and they state that about 2 days to get the cheque to my solicitor. I don't want to get them to issue until a few days before closing

If you don't mind me asking, how are you selling/buying logisitically.
Are you handing over and collecting keys on the same day?
What about your belongings? Would be interested in any feedback

We were also under severe time pressure to get cheque - and it was issued within 3 hours of our file being signed off in EBS head office. They issue cheques 3 times a day - and it can be turned around very quickly if you keep the pressure on and have someone reliable on the other end. The cheque was left at reception for our solicitor to collect. With regard to keys etc. - we had left a set of keys for our house with solicitor earlier in the week. Then on closing day - the three sales [in chain] were completed by 3pm so we simply drove to estate agent for house we were buying and picked up a set.

We filled the removal truck that morning. Depending on how many are in the chain you won't get out as early as you think - because solicitors have to meet and hand over cheques - there were three sales to close before we were given go ahead to move. We hired a small truck for 24 hours - €115 - and got a big removal truck for the bed and furniture - I think €250 for one trip.
 
We are in a chain of three movers so we have to move out of our house the same day as the buyers moving into our house. Just heard from the solicitors this morning and the vendors cant move this Friday because they cant get time off work so its all put on hold for another week.This will be my third time to get time off work and cancel this weeks days off. Am going crazy!!!
 
I am in this position. My solicitor want 3 day to get the cheque to the sellers solicitor. He suggested that I get a bridging loan for two weeks and overlap the buying and selling date which makes sense, it will cost abour €1000. it gives time to move furniture etc and clear money. You will be surprised where everything comes from once you star the move, you cannot do it in one day.
 
If you are well prepared and have good people working for you - it can be done in a day - we did it last week. Grant it - we were only moving a couple of miles so our big van was able to make two trips. We were fully unloaded and in by 6pm. Still surrounded by boxes.

[Before anyone corrects me - I know I said €250 for "one trip" above. That was the price for the move - but the driver elected to do it in two runs.
