This may be a stupid quetion. I got a speeding ticket and due to complicated reason ended up not paying and went to court. Got 4 points and the original fine from that.
My query is - does this kind of conviction stay on your record? There has been talk in the media this week regarding getting rid of previous minor convictions after 7 years, and it got me wondering whether this will be visible on my record for job / visa applications etc,
thanks, S

As far as I know the suggestion to remove convictions after 7 years is for criminal convictions and I don't think a speeding fine, even after going to court, is a criminal conviction. So it doesn't apply when looking for a visa etc.

Your "record" is a historical list of things you have been convicted for. Includes all crimes including minor ones such as speeding.

I would very seriously doubt a speeding conviction would prevent you from getting a job or a visa, so dont worry about it.
