Hi

Could someone enlighten me, my friend and I were travelling to Limerick on the dualcarriageway from Ennis to Limerick in his NI Reg car at the weekend.. whats the story here, we were not pulled over or nothing but were doing 70/75 mph and the speed limit is 100kmh... they were at least 4 other cars travelling at the same speed at the same time...

the cops were on the hard shoulder with there camera set up....

My query is can they apply points to his N.I licence or just a fine and how much?

cheers guys, just a little annoyed because it seemed that the cops were picking off easy targets on one of the best stretchs of road in Ireland, and some of the driving we saw earlier on poorer roads and no garda presence...

Eh....your mate was doing at least 10mph above the speed limit (100 kmph being 60 mph) and you're complaining about the Gardai being set up to catch people there?

I agree that is a good stretch of road but the limit is there for a reason.

Bottom line is points cannot currently be attributed to NI licences and as for fines I think he gets off those too unless he was stopped at the time (but I'm open to correction on this).

Perhaps if you and your friend were more worried about abiding by the limits next time, the issue of a fine and/or points wouldn't come into it?

well to be honest, I agree with you about the speed limit should be adhered to but come on, we drove from derry to limerick and a good dry day, little traffic and sped up to pass a lorry and were coming down a slight hill...

would you not think it would be better for the guards to be targetting more dangerous roads and built up areas than sitting on the side of a dual carriageway, were they can meet their quota. I know for a fact that they have to meet targets... Revenue regenerating exercise i think... I drive in the north as much as the south and find the PSNI target dangerous areas and more built up areas...
