speed camera van on N81 this morning? (18-02-2009)

Hi,

There was a white van parked up on LHS grass verge this morning 1/2 mile before the N81 / M50 roundabout heading towards the Roundabout - anyone see any flashes coming from it.?

The camera in the vans doesn't flash like the fixed speed cameras. If you drove past over the speed limit expect a ticket in the post.

A friend of mine got done by one on the N3 and he maintains it flashed ??!

Can those vans record speed in the dark and how long do you have to wait for the letter in the post? also do you know anything about those new gadgets recently installed in Garda cars which record speed as well as if the car is taxed/uninsured?

Yes these new cameras can take a very clear photo in the dark!! Hard to say exactly but most notices would issue within a week or two but can vary a bit? Gardai can check on the system to see if vehicle is taxed or insured but this is sometimes not accurate as the data may not be up to date and you could still be requested to present these at station? But be very careful to make sure you know who took these details at the station and be certain it is noted as otherwise you could end up with a fine for not doing so and have no way of proving you did!! It does happen sadly.

Drove past one of these vans today. Car in front of me was doing 10km over the limit and so was I in a 50km zone. The camera was clearly visible and didn't flash. I was probably too close to the car in front for it to have a clear shot at my plate. Can i expect a letter in the post?
