I'm looking to get my husband a good birthday present 'cos he deserves it!
Problem is I want it to be a surprise but I don't know much about the subject.....
He is addicted to music and now runs all his music off the computer and his iTunes music library. The aim is to be able to listen to the music off the computer in all the downstairs rooms. Therefore I think I'm looking for a sub-woofer and wireless speakers that we could put in at least 2 other rooms and preferably in 3 other rooms (ideally sub-woofer and 3 sets of wireless speakers).
I've found this in pixmania but have no idea about the sound quality.
Does anyone know of any alternatives, or what I should be looking for?
Also if there are any other possibilities for purchase on-line I'd be very interested as I'm not very mobile at the moment.
I'd be willing to spend up to E500, but of course less is attractive!!
The Z-5450 gets a reasonable review on CNet.com with one proviso - the wireless speakers are not as good as wired ones.
More importantly, though, is the fact that the wireless speakers use the 2.4GHz band which is the same as used by some cordless phones and wireless LANs. If you already have a wireless LAN, or if you are likely to want one in the future, then I would avoid this as the interference will drive you mad.
Thanks for the link M.Bond.
I think we could live with turning off the music/or going to another room with the wireless phone when needed.
More worrying is the talk of the bass not being carried to other rooms - would bass not be incorporated into the other speakers? - surely it would, but just not at subwoofer quality/intensity.
The streamer looks good - love the remote browsing facilty. But...it only allows for connected music in one additional room.
There don't seem to be many options for this..I'll keep looking.
Tks for the links, will do more research.
Having read the article more carefully I can see that the Pixmania offering isn't what I'm looking for - the system seems to be made for excellent sound in one room - spreading the speakers around will, as you pointed out, seriously compromise the sound quality.
The streamer might be the thing. Now that you've given me the name 'streamer' of the kind of device I can keep looking for the most appropriate model.
Merci!
