Is it possible to obtain spares for digital cameras? Im looking for a new lcd screen to fit onto a friends camera. Apparently the cost of repairs is astronomical in Ireland.

You're not going to find it easy to get a replacement outside the authorised service centres. Best bet is to phone these up and find out if they are willing to sell you the part. Even this route won't be cheap.
Are you 100% sure it's the LCD? Not the driver circuitry, connectors, etc? Could be an expensive trial and error process.

Have you tried searching on Google or eBay for the specific make and model? Even if there are no retailers for such parts sometimes people sell off broken devices for spare parts for little or nothing.
I had a quick peep on eBay, but both searching and browsing the categories just threw up loads of auctions for LCD screen 'protectors'. I did come across [broken link removed] store — you could try contacting them for an estimate to compare to the high-street offerings here?
Alternatively, you could try contacting the manufacturers through their website, and see if they can suggest a supplier — but, as Leo says, it won't be easy, and could be an expensive trial and error process if it turns out that the screen unit itself is not the problem.
