Hi,
I'm about to buy a property in Spain and need advice on the cheapest option for transferring funds (€100k) to my spanish bank account from Ireland.

Hi Glenviewtall,

I can't advise you on that but post your question on www.spanishpropertyinsight.com and you will get good advice. I know when purchasing our apartment the spanish bank charged us about E400 for just transferring. There are companies that specialise in this but don't know the names. Best of luck

From January 2006, if you transfer up to EUR 50,000 from a bank in Ireland to a bank in another EU Member State, you should be charged the same as transferring from one bank to another in Ireland. In other words sending money from Dublin to Cork will cost the same as sending money from Dublin to Berlin.

So send two transfers for €50K each. They should cost no more than a few cents each, and may be free. Just make sure to specify that all costs are to be paid by the sender, because AFAIK some Spanish banks still charge to receive transfers.
