Spain/Portugal: Options for extended stay

I'm thinking of taking a "time out" 2 to 3 month stay (June-Aug) next year in either Spain or Portugal. Asa start, I want to weigh up my options.

1. What is best value for 2 month/3 month renting? Probably need a 2 bed apartment near shops, entertainment, beach (the usual). Where/how is best to source accommodation?

2. Are there longer term car hire options available in Spain/Portugal?

If anybody has experience/advice, I'd be grateful.

Have a look at www.holiday-rentals.co.uk for a start. They often offer long term lets and you can negotiate direct with the owner on price etc.

i think both Portugal and spain are more or less the same when it comes to finding a place to stay and car hire costs.
watch out for min stay periods on rental contracts.
