Spain Introduce tax on all blank media

There is no word on how much this new tax will be, only that the revenues will be collected by the government, and will then be given to the "copyright holder."

How the hell do they expect to ID the "copyright holder" when you haven't transferred any data at the time of purchase ?

This is not an attractive development and lets hope that the Irish gov't doesn't spot this as another revenue generating line
 
Music industry lobbyists in Ireland and the UK have been pushing for such a levy since the heyday of cassette tapes in the early 1980s. I don't think it is ever intended as a revenue generation exercise for the government, but as a means to enhance royalties paid to entertainment artistes and composers. I think it is a loony idea.
