Sound Device problem

Hi all,

I've always been able to listen to Today fm online, and also listen to MP3's stored on my pc using windows media player.
Yesterday I tried to tune in to 2fm, and I had to download Real player to try and do this. I still couldn't listen, so I uninstalled real player. I then installed a newer version of media player.
Now when I try and listen to music, the following error message is coming up:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly

Can anyone advise what I need to do?

Thanks.

Google threw this from computing.net

Ok, after more searching for this problem I finally came across a fix.

Anyone else having this problem open windows media player and click on tools. Click on devices and wait for the list to appear. Click on speakers and click on properties. Make sure to select default direct sound device. Click ok.

I did that and now windows media player works again. How It got changed is a mystery.
