Hi,
We're off to italy next week and the travel co emailed on friday (only seen it today) to let us know that they have cancelled their direct flight to naples due to lack of numbers and are accommodating us a flight to rome and will have a 3 hour transfer time by coach. Questions are:
1) Does anyone know if it is really only approx 3 hours by coach?
2) we can cancel and get our money back, we've a 6 month baby with us and with the flight being 3 hours this brings entertaining a baby for 6/7 hours!!! Would you cancel?

Really want to go to sorrento but not sure if i can cope with the transfer time.
Is sorrento worth the travel with small baby???

Thank

Hi, I have been to Sorrento twice, both times flying into Rome and the 3 hr bus journey, as far as I recall it was only 3 hours and they have a stop half way at a kind of coffee shop for a break. Mind you didnt have a baby with me, cranky teenager alright. Road is good so I used to fall asleep on bus, just make sure not to sit on the side the sun will be shining in or it is roasting. Sorrento is lovely, I would love to go again, day trip to Capri is well worth it, Amalfi drive is terrifying I think and I prefer going on the boat trip down the coast because you can see it better.

If i were you i would cancel and get my money back! I really dont think Sorrento is worth the three hour transfer - especially with a baby. We got married in Rome two years ago and went to Sorrento for a week on our honeymoon - we went on train and it was long enough - i would imagine it would be 3 hrs or more on a bus.

Also i didnt like Sorrento - thought it was very commercialised and really dont know what the fuss was about. Therefore in my eyes Sorrento is not worth the hassle - I wouldnt go back!! Sorry but only being honest.

Hi there your post brought back memories for me,we went to sorrento a few years back with a 4 month old baby ,first holiday with the baby ,we flew to naples and a bus to sorrento (about 1hour or just over) We really were dissapointed with sorrento ,its way over rated ! and definatley not suitable for prams / buggies, the footpaths all over sorrento are about 12 inches wide(we had to go on the busy road at every tree to get by) and are non existant in alot of the town, traffic is a pain ,and noisey mopeds are constantly buzzing arround waking the baby. we went for 7 days but paid extra to leave after 5 . went to capri.... over rated tourist trap...pompei was interesting and worth the train ride but had to carry the pram everywhere ...as i said not a holiday worth bringing a baby .sorry but ive travelled all over the world and i can put up with anything but ....sorrento is not for kids ! its a rob !

Also in Sorrento it's a steep walk down by the side of a cliff to get to the beach. Definitely not fun with a buggy.

It took us about 3hrs to drive down on the motorway. It's when you leave the motorway that things really slow down.

I agree with previous posters. Sorrento is way over commercialised. Lots of lovely smaller villages in that area that are really nice - I stayed in Minori last visit which is beautiful - but the roads around are really painful to drive. Scenery is magnificient but on most coastal roads you hardly get over 2nd gear.

I definitely don't think it's worth all that effort with a young baby.
