Sony Vaio Battery Not Charging Properly

When I take my laptop off the mains the battery runs down in @ 20 mins. I can get a replacement for 60 Euro. Just wondering if there's any way of confirming that the problem is with the battery & not with the laptop itself?

sounds like the battery memory threshold has been pushed down to 20 mins due to multiple charges/discharges.

an old tech support trick that I've used multiple times is to wrap battery in tinfoil and put in freezer overnight. Take it out and leave in hotpress for a couple of hours to slowly raise temp and dry out - plug in and charge it up.

wrap battery in tinfoil
Is there not a danger of shorting the contacts that way and thus damaging the battery/cells?

Perhaps just in case you can get some more life out of your existing battery.

Sure I'll give it a go - didn't see anything from the search that would make any odds.

Gave it a go last night - didn't make any difference. No harm trying it though.
