Hi,
Situation: New build at builders finish-ish
We are trying to figure out and manage cost of buying 12 internal doors. Our feeling that we'd like to have them painted a light colour to keep the space bright.
I'm seeing a lot of primed white doors in various suppliers but they look very plastic and cheap. I'm wondering if they would still look this way once they get a coat of satinwood? Or am I better off getting a red deal door and DIYing the primer, sanding, satinwood to get a better finish?
Ultimately, we don't want anything fancy (something like pic below). Just a decent quality door that can take the years of punishment that the kids will throw at them but very conscious of budget.
Most primed white doors seem to somewhere between €130 - €180 inc vat which seems expensive for what is an engineered mdf door? Considering a red deal door might only cost €70-80, does this mean I'm paying a premium for the primed door? Or is a false economy to not choose prime doors when we plan to paint them?
Its hard to figure out what is a good deal or bad deal with them? Really hoping some experienced carpenters can help explain/guide me to making a good choice.
Our max budget is €200 for door, frame and fitting but obviously I'd like to get it for a little less if I can as they rest of the house needs to be done too
