Hi there,

We have just been granted planning permission. Purchase of the land was subject to planning permission. What I need to know now- Do all solicitors charge the same price for tranferring ownership or should I shop around?

Also what do I need for first visit to solicitor?

Any advise gratefully received.

Ideally you should engage a solicitor because they have been recommended to you by someone who's opinion you value. You can certainly shop around but cheapest isn't always best, if corners are cut.

I think you might be right there because I'm ringing around now and getting quotes and hearing very different prices.

Some solicitors have a policy of quoting inflated rates to callers who ring them looking for a quote, on the basis that they don't need or want to engage in cut-throat price competition. You may well get a better price by negotiating directly with a solicitor that has been recommended to you by another satisfied customer.
