I'm in the process of buying an apartment through shared ownership scheme and I need to get a family home declaration. The solicitor I asked to do it is saying that these usually cost 300euro but as a favour to me he'll only charge me 85euro. I really think he's ripping me off with the 85euro as its a straight forward document, can anyone else who's been through this process advise how much i should be paying?
If you are single and it doesn't include the commissioner for oaths its a bit steep. If you are a married couple and it includes the commissioner its not too bad. You will probably find it hard to get more quotes as most solicitors don't like this sort of one off work - records have to be kept etc. I think the council solicitors should prepare these documents for you, most commercial banks do, and just send you off to get it sworn, but they don't so what can you do.
I've tryed shopping around but trying to get actual prices out of solicitors over the phone ain't easy. I've been told by friend of a friend that's it's a straight forward document and that they should really be 50quid tops. THe hassle is that I've already informed the other partys solicitors that I'm dealing with this guy, if i go changing solicitors now could it go and delay the whole process? dont think i could bear it if I have to wait any longer!

yeah you're right actually now that I've read back my last post it's silly to get stressed about 35quid! I just freaked when I saw 300euro and the fact that he was acting like he was doing me a huge favour! anyhow thanks for the advice!
