Hi,
Im a student finishing off my postgrad but ive set up a small business as I do some consultancy work for which I will have to invoice people.

I will most definately earn under 37,500 (prob about 10,000 a year not including expenses)

Should I register for VAT? and if I dont and someone insists on me being VAT registered before paying an invoice am I in the right?

As im earning so little I wont have the money to pay for an accountant for some time.

Thanks

For 37k i wouldn't bother registering for VAT unless your going out buying a New van or other big purchases.
You can always register in the future if need be.
I'd consider getting a good accountant though.
Their a good go between, between yourself and revenue.

P.S. A good accountant needn't be an expensive accountant. My accountant charges me less than 1000 a year because she knows I'm struggling. And she does some handy non accountant extras like going to court with you if need be. I haven't been to court yet though :)
