Sole Trader & Joint Assessment

I registered as a sole trader in October 2013. Until that point myself and my husband had been jointly assessed for tax, but solely based on his income as I had not been in employment.

Now that I am self-employed, how should we approach the joint assessment, is it a straight forward or complicated process? If he is the nominated spouse, does he complete a tax return to include my self employment income??

As further explanation, I am self employed and my husband is a PAYE worker but with some self-employed income also.
