Sole trader and subsequent claim

A friend of mine in the construction industry ceased trading as a sole trader a number of months ago and reverted to becoming a PAYE worker. After having ceased trading he received notification of a pending Labour Court case which stated that a claim was being taken against him as his workers had been underpaid.

I am wondering if he will be found liable given that the claim was submitted after he had finished trading?

Yes , as he was trading as himself an not a company.

In my experience, at least some of these claims are bogus. He should seek appropriate professional help if he needs it.
