Hi
My husband has been self employed for the last 10 years he previously worked for a Govt body for 15 years, hes been out of work since December 2008, i'm just wondering would he be entitled to any
SW benefits, hes applied to Social Welfare office and is waiting to hear back from then, i'm earning 34k?

Hi

My husband was self employed. His company closed in July 2008. He and I both lost our jobs.

He has not been given anything by Social Welfare and I have received approx 24 euro a week for him on my Jobseekers Benefit.

SW say his S class contributions do not entitle him to claim SW.

How they expect unemployed people who were previously self employed to support themselves without help is beyond all reason.

The difference in contributions is 3% between PAYE and SE so why can't they pay an amount that is relative?

Although not hopeful I do hope this information is of some use to you.

We have appealed the decision not to allow me claim for my husband as a Qualified adult on my claim and are still awaiting a decison.

We had our meeting with the Appeals officer the first week of June.

Good luck

To be fair, everyone's in the same boat when you apply for jobseekers allowance whether you've been self-employed.never employed, or an ex-employee who's stamps have run out.Its a means-tested payment .
Everyone's means-tested on their partners income or their parents if they are 24 or under.
