A friend of mine switched their home electricity recently from Electric Ireland to Bord Gais . Their first bill came in last week and the €125 government credit was deducted which is great but the monthly senior citizens Social Welfare credit which she had been getting on her previous EI bills is not taken in to account and credited off her bill which I think should be around €35 per month ,
She is already regretting having made the switch now. I would have thought she would have got the SW credit automatically , the same as the government €125 credit that all the rest of us get? Anybody able to advise on this, please ?

She will have to get the social protection electricity monthly payment made directly with her state pension payment. Contact DSP to arrange this.

This is paid once a month with her pension.

She can contact EI to get any payments refunded to her.

Not all providers accept direct payments from DSP - only EI for electricity or Bord Gais for gas.

If a pensioner switches supplier to one who doesn't accept direct payment, the pensioner should advise the Department of the change of supplier. As S Class said, the payment will be made directly to the pensioner.
