What affect will this budget have on small business and startups. Will it kill economic activity lead to more closures and deter startups or is it a matter of things are bit more expensive get on with, plenty of opportunity out there

dont think it has done any favours unless it starts something in the const industry again but dont really see that just yet. All that being said the accountants and liquidators will do ok and anyone in the retraining/information area imho. I wonder how many self employed will now start going back to paying themselves cash as this is the first budget in a long time where from a tax take you are now directly worse off we may see a rise in the black economy which would in turn worsen the gov coffers.

New new start up companies, no corporation tax for three years, up to a liability of 40,000 per annumn. This means a company can make profit up to 960,000 over the years and not pay tax on it...

make profit up to 960,000 over the years
lol! - how many start ups make any profit for the first three years?

So no, the budget has done nothing to help SMEs and Start ups. VAT's gone up and airport tax won't help much either.
