Old man trouble here again, having missed switching my dual fuel last year I am back on bonkers again, but they want to know do I have a Smart Meter! Yes or No, I do have a Smart Meter but its only in basic use.

The meter is not in full use and won't be either.


The thing is last year I think I saw one energy company advertising you must have a smart meter, so what should I do as they
will all follow suit where ever the money is:p
 
You are probably referring to Yuno Energy.
You must have a smart meter.
You also must sign up to a smart plan which is irreversible.
 
What do you mean by the meter is not in full use?

All smart meters record your electricity usage every 30mins. Your usage data is available on the ESB Network site.

You do not have to sign up to a Smart plan if you do not want to
 
I presume that @pudds means that the meter is still in "legacy" MCC01 mode and hasn't been "activated" for smart services/tariffs (MCC12 or MCC16)?

Time to move to a SMART plan?

Well I'll start so! When all the charges escalated a few years ago, the suppliers used the confusion to seriously jack up the standing charges. There was no justification for this and yet the Gov/Regulator made no attempt to intervene. This of course had a disproportional effect on low usage...
