Smallest laptop?

What is the smallest size laptop available (while still looking like a laptop with qwerty keyboard)? A boss of mine a few years ago had a really small laptop - nor much more than A5 size so about half 'normal' laptop size - are these still available? I've looked on some of the pc magazine websites but what they describe as ultra-portable are still fairly big with 12" screens. Thanks.

A few years ago, it was probably a Sony Picturebook. Google for ultraportable for modern equivalents.
Fujitsu LifeBook, Dialogue Flybook, to name two brands.
http://ultranote.com is one specialist vendor I've used ; there are others.

Google for "Sony VAIO TXN19P/L Notebook", it's got an 11.1" display. Ultra light and portable. Not cheap though.

Yeah - a colleague and a friend of his have these and they're class machines but certainly not cheap!

Bear in mind that ultra portable components may be even less standard than regular notebook/laptop components so if you ever need to upgrade or replace components that too may cost more than normal.

I'd be a bit wary of the Flybook. Their own publicity seems to suggest that they're aiming it at rather eccentric women who lie down on public piers, strip down to bikinis but keep on heavy pairs of ski-boots.

I'll keep an eye out for similar Flybook-users the next time I'm on Dunlaoghaire pier.

RAM and hard drives on latest Flybooks are standard laptop parts and are user upgradeable. Also has a PCMCIA slot which is handy for using old peripherals.

If it does what you need, then who cares about the dodgey publicity.
