Hi folks,
I've a question about getting a small mortgage to finish off my house.

The only loan I got from the bank was for 20k euro back in 2008 to buy the site, which im still paying back.

I was out of work for two years and was just paying the interest on the loan,

Im in steady employment now for the past two years.

I've been using my own money on the house so far but really need a cash injection now for interior (kitchen, bathrooms, decorating etc.).

Can anyone tell me what my best option is?

My wages get paid into the bank and have small saving in credit union like a grand or so.

Looking forward to the replies.

Thanks

Credit union is probably best option, how small are you talking, most banks have minimum amounts and you have legal fees involved in a mortgage.

obviously i'd need a valuation done but i was roughly making out that i'd need 60k,want to build a small garage aswel, how does that work with the remaining ammount i have on the 20k loan? theres roughly 15k left on it

That's probably enough to consider a mortgage, remaining loan is usually paid off from new loan so amalgamated with it. For this reason the bank the existing loan is with is probably your best bet as most other banks won't take over debt.

You may still end up with the credit union with mortgage lending being so strict these days.

Yeah you are probably right, roughly what would be the monthly repayments on a mortgage of 60k from the bank??along with the 15k left on the original loan, thanks for the replies im just trying to work out the best and 'sensible' option in the current climate!!

Haven't a clue of repayments, play around with amounts on one of the bank calculators like this one [broken link removed] and it will give you some idea of repayments.
