small flies in kitchen

Not sure if anybody can help but recently had my house renovated and got a new kitchen. Moved back in last week and have noticed all these little tiny flies, like you see on rotten fruit in the kitchen. I've neither fruit nor plants in the kitchen so don't know where they are coming from. They are so annoying if I manage to kill one there seems to be ten more appearing.

Any ideas how to get rid of them?
 
I got a great tip on here before re something similar.
Try putting some vinegar into small jars/glasses or the likes. Cover with cling film and then punch a few small holes in the cling film. Leave then dotted around the kitchen, 2-4 depending on the size of kitchen. Should get rid of them in no time.
 
Could be plaster beetles, if so, they'll disappear before long.
 
same here - tiny flies all over the friggin place and you spot them and then you lose them - only when they land on a window can you see them easily. Where are they all coming from this year??? Someone mentioned all the new compost bins that the council have delivered over the last couple of years but it is this summer that the problem seems to have started...

We have something like these all over the garden just this week - long, thin - look more like flies than beetles - wings have sharp, straight edges, not rounded ones. They are all over the washing and the gable ends of the houses.

Any ideas?
 
Any chance it's flying ants? Could be the queen's nuptial flight.
 
They seem to be bigger, blacker, more solid than the usual flying ants that I've seen.
 
I was in Duncannon, Co. Wexford over the last few days and these "flies" were everywhere. First I thought they were a type of sand fly but they are exactly as Complainer described.

They seemed to be drawn to skin etc.. and within a few minutes they were all over us, even in our hair. They weren't biting but it was the dirtiest most uncomfortable feeling ever. Cars and glass windows were covered in them. Yuck...

I have never seen anything like them before, certainly not in Ireland.
 
They are St Mark's Flies.

They will be gone in a week, they are doing it and will be back in April for a week.
 
All over our back garden at the moment. Horrible things because they just land on you. They seem to have a very active sex life...... or longer foreplay maybe!
