Anyone got any advice on which SLR camera would be best to buy? It will be my first SLR, and am buying for a safari trip to Africa, but hope to get loads more use out of it.

I have it narrowed down to the following 2:
Canon EOS 1000D + EF-S 18-55mm
Nikon D3000 + AF-S DX VR NIKKOR 18-55mm f/s 3.5 - 5.6 zoom lens Nikon D3000 + AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm II lens

Also, anyone know best place to buy? Pixmania seems the cheapest but read some bad stuff on other threads about them.

While I have a Nikon my self the D3000 is supposed to be crap (VR 18-55 lense takes good pictures, but cheaply made), when compared to their higher models. The D90 is nice, while not as expensive as a D300, but may be too expensive. Don’t know about the EOS 1000D, I have used 450D and thought it was good. Have a look at the www.DPReview.com for details and reviews, and http://www.kenrockwell.com for opinionated reviews!
What I will say is that you need a better than 55mm zoom for taking photos of animals on the safari. So add a 200 or 300mm zoom into the mix!
