Hi folks, just wondering how people seeking mortgages are finding the banks at present. are they willing to do business or just wanting to fob you off. Which are the banks doing business at present. I'm trying to get a mortgage but am practically being asked to forfeit my first unborn child at this stage. Just interested in hearing other opinions or is it just me......

Banks are still lending, it is more difficult to get approval but it is easier to see who will not be approved so it makes a broker's life easier in a roundabout way.

If you do not have

- sufficient savings and history of savings
- well managed bank accounts
- proven repayment capacity
- net disposable income of at least €1500 per month after all bills (incl. mortgage) are paid (more if you have children)
- safe job and some years in current job
- clean credit history

then you should really wait until you can say yes to all of the above.
