slate roof tiles

I am currently building a house out the country, I would love slate roof tiles but they are so expensive.

Are there such a thing as tiles that look like slate, or should I suffer the price of them?

Thanks

Look at Tegral ThrutonePlus & ThrutonePlus Relief Slates.

the blue black Plus Relief is ok on an older building but if your building a dormer or something modern it may not suit.

I've never seen the Rivendale Blue-Black but it's worth a look.

These are man-made slates which will be a fraction of the price of natural slate.

Here's a picture of the relief slates on an old building. Not quite the natural slate look but they do look a hell of a lot better on a single story roof than the plain tegral slate. [broken link removed] - warning 1MB for the detail

We used them, and are very happy with them. They are a lot dearer than Trutone, but do look better. Not as good as the real thing, but close enough.

I've recently installed a reconstituted natural slate (Cambrian Slate) with the material coming from Capco roofing via Lafarge roofing. I'm delighted with my new roof, and in a year or so will look like a real natural slate. See below for details
