Hello,
I'd be very grateful for advice on how best to proceed with the below situation (apologies for the very long posting):
Dishwasher broke down but covered under 2 yrguarantee. I ring manufacturing company who send representative to repair machine. I'm not able to let the repair man in myself as I am at work, so a neighbour does and stays with him whilst he repairs machine. Neighbour notices him dragging appliance out roughly and that there are white marks on the floor following this. Just prior to finishing up the repair man wipes the (black) floor, so white marks appear to disappear.
I get home from work and see the white marks on the floor which are actually scratches all across my black slate floor. I ring manufacturing company (it's after 5pm so they are closed) and leave a message asking to be contacted directly.
I then ring repair man amd ask him about the tiles... he says ' yeah, pulling out the dishwasher caused some marks, but I used a wet cloth to wipe them off'. I explain that he actually scratched the floor and that I will be contacting the manuf company further about it.
I take photos of the marks and email them to the manuf company along with an email outlining the above (incl conversation with repair man).
Next morning...I speak to head of Service Repairs who apologises profusely and asks me to get a quote for repair of the damage and to send it to her and the manuf co will reimburse me for the damage. She also says that one of their engineers may need to go visit property to take some photos of the damage also. I agree to both items, happy that it's being sorted out.
I get quote from tiler and tile shop for this work. It amounts to almost €600 (this may sound excessive, however original tiles will have to be cut out, new ones put down, floor resealed and polished, cost of slate tiles, grout, adhesive, sealant).
I ring head of service repairs and she tells me to submit the quotes to her by email. That's grand, I do so. I then get an email back from her saying 'you will have to claim this from your own house insurance or pursue the original repair man and claim it from his public liability insurance' and also denying that she said that the company would pay for it.
Needless to say I'm furious. I'd been very nice and reasonable up until this point but am now fit to blow a gasket about this! I can't see why I should have to claim this on my own house insurance (given that I didn't cause the damage myself and knowing that my premium will rise consequentially in next years) or why I should have to go about pursuing some random repair man (whose only contact details I have are a mobile no, and who also knows where I live!).
I'd be grateful for any advice on how best to proceed with this.
Thanks
