hi all.
looking for a good Skoda superb diesel and also would like to know peoples thoughts on which would be better the superb diesel or the passat dielsel
approx 10 to 12k to spend

thanks

They use the same engine, so it boils down to personal taste in the model of the car and the spec.

You'll get alot more Superb for your money. It is a bigger car and will be better speced. A 03 130bhp Comfort model should be within your grasp if you haggle hard.

Agreed, if it's value for money you want go for the Skoda. Think you might be hard pushed to find good ones for 10-12k...may be high mileage

i was in a superb taxi recently and although it is huge , the main thing i noticed was the extreme cheapness of the dash plastics.

Very similar body and engine wise. Better value in the Skoda if you're not worried about badge.

Hi All,
sorry if im off the topic slightly, but ive just ordered a new
Octavia 1.9 tdi.the thing is i do roughly 12k miles a yr.
someone said i was mad,but i want the diesel for the superior drive in my opinoin.
i dont believe i am as i intend keeping it for many many yrs.
Thanks.

Skoda, no question. Had Passat as co car, but really wanted Skoda. Co said no, as 'they always buy VW......'

Looks to me like the cheapest Superb TDI is 15 grand did they only come in around 2003?

You should be able to get a Passat 02 or so.

Make sure and go for the 130 bhp with the 6 speed box though whicever car you go for.

I have an 01 passat sport best car I ever had, no major problems after 45k miles. 95k on the clock now. Touch wood. Fantastic to drive and easy on the diesel as well.

No comparison. VW is a classier car. I know the engine is the same but that`s where the similarities end. I drive a modest focus, but for me Skoda will always be a poor man`s VW (sorry if that offends).

the superb is a far superior car to the passat.Test drive both and you will sonn see. The only thing going for the VW is the badge but thats where it ends.Skoda is cleaning up all over europe - everybody cant be wrong.By all means buy the passat but why would you, when you have so much more in the superb, and boy, do they look good! its actually built on the Audi A6 platform, not the passat.

I am on my second Skoda Diesel, and for me at the price you pay, the quality of the product and very high standard specs far outweigh the badge at the front, though I do believe that people have come around to accepting Skoda a lot more now than all the old jokes from the '80's.Bear in mind that much the same as Toyota and Lexus are the same car in Japan, yet the Lexus is sold in Europe as a Luxury car, there is a lot of money spent on marketing that convinces people one marque is better than the other. For me, value for money will always be a key buying indicator and here the Skoda wins all the time.

Have owned both - Traded up to a passat about a year ago. Skoda is a fine car but the passat is far superior in my opinion.

If you can afford a decent spec VW, get that...no arguement.....quality, resale value and kudos says it all.
The Skoda is a great car also, can't deny that with similar under body parts, platform, good dealer service and reliability. Resale value is not the same however. Suppose it comes down to personal taste and how you feel driving in the car you pick. Will you be driving the Skoda, regretting you didn't buy the VW instead when you see one parked next to you at the lights?

I own 2 Skodae (if that is the plural of Skoda) so that is my conflict of interest stated for all to see.

On the issue of resale value, the differential between the new Skoda and VW is simply replicated in second hand market. So you get more for your VW, but you had to pay more for it in the first place.
