skoda service light

I have a skoda diesel, '05, and the 'service due in 500km' came on today under the mileage. Up to now I've serviced it at the main dealers, but no longer want to do this. If I go to a local garage, will they be able to turn this off or is it something only the main dealer can do? I assume it requires the use of some type of plug in diagnostic gear....?

Not sure on the Skoda, but on a toyota auris diesel it's a matter of holding down the mileage reset button with the ignition off then turn on and keep holding and that puts it back to normal.Most cars would have a similar setup i guess

What model is it? you can do most of the range through the dash.
