Hi,

A neighbour purchaed an 1.9 diesel Octavia of a garage on my recommendation in 03 it was new at the time. He has done 25K miles on this diesel car. Three weeks ago the connecting rod of the piston came out through the side of the engine. I rang the dealer on his behalf. They took the car into the garage and still have not told him what is wrong or what remedies are available to him. This will be three weeks tomorrow.

He lives on his own in the country and they did not offer him a car or anything like that and now have an assessor coming out to look at it. This seems very unfair. I have purchaed 4 new cars of the same dealer and my father has purchaed three since 2001.

What would the your suggestions be? They have suggested a new engine will cost €6000!!

yes contact skoda ireland....

but if it does need a new engine. you can buy reconditioned engines at a fraction of the cost. I got one for a hyundai coupe last year for €1500 inc. fitting.
oh, and take it to another garage obviously!
