Skimming starting; Do I fit windowboards first?

Folks,

Skimming is just around corner finally. As the title says, should I fit windowboards prior to or after skimming? In brother's pad, they were finished before (sand/cement & skim coat) & I noticed they were literally destroyed by plasterers. Was thinking therefore of fitting ater but would like to know which is best. Thanks in advance, apple1
 
Usually are fitted first and given a coat of varnish or two, i have teak boards cost €700 so what we did was skimmed up to a 3x1 and put the window boards in after!
 
Good advice Jollyman.....no final decision on varnish vs paint yet, so probably prudent to follow your lead & fit 3 x 1 temporarily.
