Hi guys, I am looking at ski holiday for 4 people, a number of the people would be cost conscious and wud require ski lessons as they have never done skiing before. Can anybody recommend any ski resort that wud have good night life and the cost of the ski package wud be cheap or reasonable ?
I am ok with organising the holiday myself or going through a travel agent

Any advice would be appreciated

Group of us went to Slovenia a number of years ago, all self-organised and worked out a lot cheaper than the packages.

Per person austria mayrhohfen with travel agent late jan 2012 1200euro...no ski school included

per person austria kitzbulel internet booking crystal late jan 2013 550 euro...no ski school...

significant savings to be made, insurance through travel agent 300...

Have skied for many years in Slovenia (Kranjska Gora): Went independently a few times but last couple of times with family & kids booked a package with crystalski. Fantastic spot for beginners.....hotels very high standard (incl indoor pool or use of next doors) but best thing is right on slopes. Also has night skiing which is great fun. Very reasonable prices compared to Austrian/French resorts where generally accommodation smaller and usually a good distance from slopes that necessitates trek with skis/boots (not easy) to bus stop to get you to gondola/lifts. Generally means leave in morning back in evening....whereas in Kranj you can ski for a while take a break go back etc. Now downside: Small resort so nightlife can be limited...couple decent pubs but nothing like you will get in other resorts...also tends to attract more families. Also and this is a biggie.....it is a low resort so snow reliability can be suspect.....some years we had tonnes of snow other times less so...and one year it was raining!....though if this happens they provide free transport to Bohijn an hour or so away which is higher but kinda defeats the purpose of being in Kranj. So far this year snow very poor but forecasts are for it to improve. TBH they don't need it to actually snow just the temp to drop so the snow cannons can make snow.....think they need -2 or -4 for this to be effective: So to summarise...Kranj is ideal for beginners but quieter than other spots (and def cheaper)(also been to kitzbuhl Austria and Avoriaz in france) and snow can be great or iffy! hope that helps......
