size of drill bits for screw

What are you drilling into? If concrete/block you will need a raw plug.

If metal, and the screw is self tapping, you will need a slighty smaller bit than the screw.

When i asked to buy a steel bit the guy gave me a size 5 mm.

In another shop the guy said i could screw in without drilling a hole as is self tapping but i might need a pilot bit

A pilot hole is drilling the metal first with a smaller diameter bit than the screw.

I would go with a 2 or a 2.5mm bit.
