site insurance - yes or no?

we are going direct labour and are just wondering about insurance.

we met our engineer yesterday and asked him about site insurance, and he reckons that we don't need it, that public liability insurance would be enough. we have gotten a quote of over 3 grand for it, and pubic liability for 250.

our engineer says that the public liability will cover everyone coming into the site and that if we make sure that all the workers have their own insurance we should be fine.

also have been told that if there are any structural problems with the house that these will be covered under the engineers insurance.

we just want to make sure we have all our facts straight, as don't want any problems in the future. looked throught the website and most people seem in favour of the site insurance but if we don't need to spend 3 grand on it we would rather not.

any thoughts /advice??

Re: site insurance - yes or no???

We had home undersonstruction insurance, available from some insurance companies which covered both PL and any damage/loss on the site.

Are you covered if a valuable item is stolen during construction, a friend had some very expensive items stolen and his insurance did not cover him.

Most mortgage lenders will require a copy of the Engineers Insurance to ensure he is covered by insurance should there be a structural fault which renders the house less valuble.
