Site Clearance-Converting Sq Mts to Tonnes

I know this is possibly a question for a structural engineer, but I'm just taking a look at a site and have a trivia question for you all ?

If I have a site of 520 Mts Squared and had to lower the site by approx. 1 metre (the site is on a hill) to even the site out, how would I calculate (roughly) the amount of tonnes of soil that would need to be removed.

Is there an equation for such a calculation.

IE. 1 Metre removed from an area of 520 metres squared equals 60 tonnes ?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Regards,

Brian

well depends on the density of what you're working with.

Check out this forum - onlineconversion.com, or more specifically this post.

From a volume perspective you're looking at 520 cubic meters of soil. - this is assuming you're removing 1 meter deep across the site, as it's on a hill, I'm assuming that there will actually be some variation.

According to the thread from online conversion, it's:
If its packed, 2.0 tonne/cubic meter = 1040 tonnes
If its loose, 1.25 tonne/cubic meter = 650 tonnes

However, I'm not an expert - I'm sure someone will correct me.

Thanks Dem syhp.

Just reread my post and apols for the bad spelling.

Quick question. Any idea on how much it is to get soil removed.

100 tonnes of top soil = €300 ?

Thanks for the feeback and I will checkout the above link.

Should cost between 50 and 100 euros per load. Depends where you are how far to landfill how legit you want to be. a load will hold approx 18 metric tons

if you re on a hill you may just need to move some from the top of the hill to the bottom.

Thanks Meathman, we are starting at the bottom of the hill and digging out.

I'm based in the Dublin area.

If the area is 520 Mts Sq X 2 tonne = 1040 tonne X €100 = €104,000 !

Need more research..........

Approx 100 e per 18 t load so about 5000e.
Will also depend on material. is there any chance that the site has previously been contaminated.

If it's good top soil and you have room on the site pile it up and sell it.I have just paid 150 euro for 10 ton load.

Meathman, Thanks for the clarification on the sums.

€100 for 18t makes more sense. Was getting mild heart attack about the sums.

€5k, can handle that. & yes. 4/5 of it would be very good top soil.

150 years ago, it was farming land.

Its overgrown now, but still think it would be very good soil, if the weeds on the surface were dealt with.

Barry251- Cheers for that.

That may be an option as well (or give it away free) however given the amount, this may take a while & I dont want to annoy the neighbours with cars/trucks coming and going.
