FG and FF are appallingly bad at communicating their message. It doesn't help that RTE are ideologically hostile to them and that the Irish Times, formerly the news paper of the Protestant establishment and Castle-Catholic is now in bed with the Shinners but they should be doing a far better job. They still decided to lift the eviction ban despite SF's opposition and the easier thing being to leave it in place (granted, it was only introduced as part trying to pander to SF). FG bemuse me, there is no electoral advantage for them in moving to the populist left; in fact, it is alienating their base, but they are doing it anyway. SF will eat their lunch regardless so I don't understand why they don't try to capture the large middle-class vote and pivot back to being the party of "fiscal rectitude".
Is there any bad thing, anywhere, that can't be linked to Putin and Trump? LOL.Masters of the 'Big Lie'.Putin and Trump are also practitioners.Repeat it often enough and it becomes the truth for a susceptible electorate. The eviction ban a case in point, not ending it flies full in the face of logic.Rational analysis must be sacrificed at the alter of popular support. However HAP tenancies are already subject to inspection which is excessive, inconsistent and messy. They will likely make a damn mess of their NCT proposal if their record in The North is anything to go by.
In what sense do you think SF are going to "win" the next election? After all, according to themselves, they already "won" the last one! To really win an election requires 50% plus of the elected TDs to support your candidate for Taoiseach. Fortunately, the shinners are a long, long way off this mark. This doesn't make sense though, they are going to win the next election regardless of what happens at this stage so the adoption of any of their policies by the current government will make their inherited position more difficult to deal with.

Irony of ironies - this only applied to private rented housing - not council housing. What % of council housing wouldn't meet the NCT standards? A lot I think.Could this all just be designed to get rental properties up to grade for social housing at the cost of private landlords before the state take them over later, thus saving the state on the upgrading costs and delays?
You require a CoF for rentals in Northern Ireland,Rental market in Northern Ireland is facing similar problems in terms of affordability and supply.Sinn Fein(translated as We Ourselves) are indeed playing the long game as you rightly sayIs there any bad thing, anywhere, that can't be linked to Putin and Trump? LOL.
As for Northern Ireland, there is no rental NCT there and neither is there a shortage of accommodation either.
SF are playing to the gallery here.
If by that you mean they they will be the largest single party, then you're probably correct. But then again, SF constantly tell us that FF and FG are identical parties that are - Mary Lou cliche alert - out of ideas (yawn) and out of time (yawn) and should be out of government (yawn). Yet, every single opinion poll since the last election has put the combined FFG vote comfortably ahead of SF.They will win a plurality of the vote comfortably
Almost definitely, eh? A party that's at 30-40% in the polls and going backwards in recent months. Where's the rest going to come from? Grand left coalition? You must be joking. If there's one thing lefties hate more than right-wingers, it's other lefties with minute political differences from them. Who would the plonkers before profit, for instance, be happy to have in the big left tent?and will almost definitely be the major partner in a coalition government.
If you can't form a government, it's pretty ludicrous to claim you "won" the election! By your criteria, parties that "win" elections can and do go into opposition, while parties that "lose" elections go on to form a government. I think you need to re-evaluate your understanding of winning and losing! They have a reasonable argument that they did win the 2020 election to be fair. Parties often win elections but can't form a government.

The Social Democrats, the younger Greens, the Eamonn O'Cuiv wing of populist FF, and Slogans before Logic or whatever they are called now, will all coalesce around the Shinners. The populist Independents will also support them with the right shopping list of populist bribes.Almost definitely, eh? A party that's at 30-40% in the polls and going backwards in recent months. Well, possibly, IF the numbers stack up. Which is a pretty big IF. But even if you did form such a government, how long would it last? If Nessa (God love her) can't hack not getting her every whim, what do you think the Transition Year Greens or the far, far extreme left would be like? The Social Democrats, the younger Greens, the Eamonn O'Cuiv wing of populist FF, and Slogans before Logic or whatever they are called now, will all coalesce around the Shinners. Eamonn O'Cuiv is 72 years old. He is unlikely to be in the next Dáil. He has no "wing" worth talking about. The Social Democrats, the younger Greens, the Eamonn O'Cuiv wing of populist FF, and Slogans before Logic or whatever they are called now, will all coalesce around the Shinners. They could be there long enough to do some real harm.Well, possibly, IF the numbers stack up. Which is a pretty big IF. But even if you did form such a government, how long would it last? The populist FF'ers who don't like the reality of actually being in government. The guys who are pseudo-republicans like the Shinners.Eamonn O'Cuiv is 72 years old. He is unlikely to be in the next Dáil. He has no "wing" worth talking about.
True, but they could be replaced by more Shinners. My hope is that the Social Democrats split the anti-reality protest vote. I'd rather them in the Dail than the Shinners as while they are whiny-socialist/populists like the Shinners unlike the Shinners they have never murdered anyone, don't have a private army, haven't covered up child rape, haven't robber any banks and don't carry the coffins of killers. Most Social Democrats, Green and Slogans before Logic TDs in the current Dáil are only there on foot of Shinner transfers or because the Shinners didn't have enough candidates in many constituencies in the last general election.
