Single/double glaze for glass in diy solar panel

Hello,

When building your own solar panel for water heating should you use single-pane or double-glazed glass?

ALERT.

I would imagine double-glazing would be better as it would retain the background heat generated by the solar energy in the panel for longer.

I'm curious. Are you following a design, or making it from scratch?

Actually my 77 year old dad is making it, (an 8 by 4 foot panel), from scratch, .. we reckon it will cost approximately Eur200.

While you are correct that double-glazed glass will retain more heat than single-glazed we were wondering if double-glazing might block out more light energy than single pane.
