Hi all,
just wondered if anyone has been to Singapore and can recommend nice hotel?
Also any tips on shopping particularly for electronics/cameras etc.
I know you should check the box after you bought to make sure that everything in there and also have an idea on prices and what's included before you start.
Ant tips on good shops would be appreciated.

Has anybody done daystrips from Singapore into Malaysia?

Thanks D,
I had found one of those threads but not the one mentionding the zoo and shopping.
Major point of stopping there is to break the trip to Oz and do some shopping.
I know Hong Kong would be better for shopping but you end up with longer flight to Oz (Perth).
It is over 5 hours to Perth from Singapore and don't want to add to it in the limited time available.

The following are on Orchard Rd. Takashimaya, a large Dept store with a number of outlets. Very reputable but not the cheapest for electronics. Lucky Plaza is cheaper but watch what you buy! If you like Dim Sum, the Chinese restaurants in Ngee Ann City are very good.

The 'Night Safari' in S'pore Zoo is excellent.

Electronics from the smaller shops are suspect. I bough SONY and SEIKO stuff which turned out bad.

You can buy the copy watches. They are a novelty but remember the sellers only pay about e15 for the watchesso, if you bargain hard you can get them for about e20. (They will ask for a hell of a lot more)

Thanks for the information folks.
I think I might just buy the gear over the internet here.
Of course if I spot a real bargain it will be hard to resist.

JMAyo,
Singers is a great spot, probably the best hotel with value for money id the fullerton, http://www.fullertonhotel.com/
it s the old GPO, smashing spot, If you stay there you must have the Sunday Brunch from 11.30 to 3pm free flow real Champagne & as much of EVERY type of Food you can eat for E70, don't miiss this opportunity.

If you want trips outta Singapore you can go very far very cheaply with:

http://www.airasia.com/site/sg/home.jsp

these are excellent budget carriers operating from the budget terminal in Changi INT'l Singapore, stay away from the train to KL its more expensive & obviously much slower & dirtier, than the carriers listed above.

For electronics I would recommend the large Chains like Harvey norman & Courts, SIM LIM square & Tower have been known to give dodgy deals on occasion.
If you get quoted an extraordinarily low price for electronics, ask 2 questions to see if he is BS'ing you

1: Got Stock or not ? Translate :do you currently have this item in stock?
2: Includes GST or not? Translate:does the price quoted include VAT ?

have a great trip...
