Singapore recommendations?

Am thinking of stopping off in Singapore for a few days before going to Oz, will have my kids with me too.
Can anyone recommend a good hotel, and also one that is near the city centre?
Also any other recommendations highly appreciated.

Stayed at Carlton hotel few years ago. Fabulous location & beautiful hotel. Would definately recommend the Night Safari.
 
I always wait till a couple of weeks before going and go to one the Hotel discount websites to get cheap hotels like then just looked around the city centre. Singapore is not that big anyway and taxis are pretty cheap- going back there in March for a couple of days.
 
Am heading there myself in March for four nights, trailfinders do extra night offers etc so may be worth having a look at their selection.
