does anyone know if it is ok to handwash a 100% silk dress , it says on the label to dry clean only but i think that the diamonte choker would be missing a few diamontes after dry cleaners. It is not really that dirty but has a few little marks where I think it had a few drips of drink on. If I hand washed and left it drip dry and then took it to dry cleaners to have it pressed how would that work out. Has anyone washed anything that is 100% silk ? all advice welcome thanks

It depends on the dress. Most dry clean only stuff has almost a coating that means it doesn't react properly with water and in some cases handwashing can ruin the dress. Also I've had silk colours run when handwashing non-labelled silks with just cool water.

I'd prefer to find a good dry cleaners and get it done professionally.

I've handwashed 100% silk items before with no problems at all - even ones that said dry-clean only. It would be completely impractical for me to spend a fortune on dry-cleaning a silk top after each night out so I just handwash carefully. I think it depends on the type of silk?

Maybe if the dress is very expensive you should play it safe and take it a dry-cleaners that specialises in evening wear.

If you do decide to handwash it, use cool to luke-warm water, NOT hot water and a gentle detergent.

Google handwashing silk and you'll see plenty of advice. Good luck.
