signing building agreement in 07 or 08

I'm getting a builder to build my house and he is anxious to get the building agreement signed before christmas as he plans to start building in the new year.
I was just wondering if signing the agreement has anything to do with complying with the new building regs or does this make any difference? Its a fixed price contract.

Can't think of anything offhand. I think complying with building regulations depends on the date of your planning permission and or when building commences or is substantially complete - certainly it would have nothing to do with the building agreement. I hope that you are having your solicitor draw this up or check it before you sign, it is very important that this is done as there are certain of the general conditions that are always amended to suit the client.
