Side gate recommendation

Hi all, we have a very old wooden side gate that sits between two semi-detached houses. It pretty much fell apart in the storm so needs replacement. This isn’t something we want to spend much on, just want something sturdy. We’re based in Dublin. Also our wall has external insulation so I’m a bit concerned the installer could cause problems if they aren’t used to working with this. Would be delighted if anyone could recommend somebody, thanks in advance

Hello,

We had a side gate replaced a couple of years ago - selected a small business, but the service was good, no subsequent issues, and while we didn't go for the cheapest gate available, I've never regretted it.

Happy to recommend, based on our own experience. No connection or conflict of interest etc.

Thanks so much for replying, will look into that.

We were in the same situation 10 years ago , Our semi detached house was wrappped then , I know you do not want to spend much on it but if you plan on staying in your house long term You should go with a pvc gate , We had to have a post set in concrete to carry the weight so it is not attached to the wall , Still looks like it is new 10 years on , Maintenance free apart from spraying mould and mildew on it now and then .

I replaced my wooden side gate with an aluminium one from this company https://staraligates.com/

Extremely professional, called out promptly and outlined the options svd provided a quote.

Gate can be opened/locked with a key from either side and has a small hook to keep open.

One of my neighbours then bought from this company, and her house has external insulation.

I'd highly recommend - worth getting a quote

Unless you have plans for the old gate, ask whoever you engage if they will remove the old wooden gate. As it has no scrap value, this might either be extra or not handled at all.

Thanks for the recommendation, will give them a call.

I had a wooden side gate also, the frame was still in good condition so I got a local handyman to replace the wooden board ps it with composite decking it’s great and no maintenance!

Thanks for posting, unfortunately our gate is past any rescue point. Might help somebody else though.
