My wife is off sick from her job at the moment, she wont get any sick pay from her job. If she applies for state sick pay does it come from her prsi or is that just for unemployment.
 
PRSI contributions are not just for unemployment payments.

They also cover disability payments.
 
Thanks ClubMan, looked up that site, you are right . It seems they are calculated different for the sick pay , than unemployment. A well! just have to hope enough stamps up,because its beyond me to understand their system. :eek:
 
If you don't qualify for a particular PRSI linked benefit then you may qualify for the equivalent means tested allowance.

The equivalent mean-tested allowance is Disability Allowance, which is only payable if the illness is expected to last 12 months or so.

I'll try and simplify it:

This year, to get Illness benefit you must have 52 (one year's) PRSI contributions paid in the first place.

Then, you must have 39 contributions paid or credited in 2006 of which 13 must be "paid" contributions. ("credited contributions are given when you claim a benfite such as Illness or Jobseeker's).

If you don't have the 39 total in the 2006 year, you can qualify by having 26 PAID contributions in 2006 and 26 PAID contributions in 2005.

So if you were employed fully in 2006, you should qualify for Illness Benefit
 
The above thread is simple enough for me to understand. Thanks very much, i wish everything was explained like above, rather than printing a book on the subject.
 
Can I ask if you are just off 4 days sick from work in a company that does not have sick pay is there 3 waitings days. Last week I went home sick on Friday and think I will get paid for this but then I was off until the next Friday thus loosing out in 4 days pay. Will there be waiting days or will I get full 4 days
