I was receiving sw payments while out of work on sick leave. My employer was deducting the amount of these payments from my salary. When I had been out sick long enough for my employer to reduce my salary to half pay they still deducted the full amount I received from social welfare from my half pay. Is this correct?
Would depend on contract as above poster says, but I'd say its common enough practice. If any illness benefit payable to you is deducted from your pay when you're getting paid 100% of your wages, it would more than likely apply to half pay. Employers would be keen to recoup any money they can, so wouldn't surprise me if your contract allowed for all of your Illness Benefit to be recouped.
But yeah, check your contract, and talk to your Union if you have one.
