Hi, I have been invited to Sicily next month, kind of at the last minute. Its a friends company trip from the States, and his wife can't travel, so we are going on the **** and golfing basically I will be staying here... [broken link removed]
Looks kinda nice! My first question is, what airlines fly there? I'm in Tipperary so Shannon or Cork would be the handiest. Have to fly on Sun 19th and return on Fri 24th. Secondly for people who have been here, is it a good lively island with clubs, or is it more chilled out? We are both in our early 30's. Any help or info appreciated.

I've gone Dublin/Pisa/Palermo with Ryan Air. Just under €200 per ticket but you may get a bargain. Perhaps AL are cheaper. Or going by UK. If you go during a religious holiday things are a little mad.

Aerlingus fly to Catania on Sunday mornings from Dublin. Not sure about Cork or Shannon. I don't think they fly back on Friday's though so you may need a solution via Naples or Rome.

Looking at where you are stying, there does not seem to be much around you. You are away from the most tourist parts of the island by way of Taormina/Giardini Naxos etc. Rural Sicily is just that - small very traditional mediteranean villages. You certainly wont get lively with night clubs etc. Saying that, it is a beautiful island and well worth a visit.

Thanks Deas for the info. Do you know if there are any casinos on the island, or is gambling illegal?

Hi Slookie, I saw one run down casino in Taormina that was more like a gaming arcade. From what I was advised by a local, many Sicilians fly to Malta to gamble. I suspect it's not strictly legal.
