Shrubs/ climbers suitable for high up windy balcony apt

Hi
We are on 6th floor of west facing (ie windy) apartment. I have tried some shrubs and climbers on the railings in an attempt to slightly screen the apartment. However anything I've tried has simply died due to the high winds they are exposed to (despite taking good care otherwise of them).

Any recommendations for a tough climber or plants that would be resistant to these high winds? Anything that would be a 'year rounder' would be great too.
