Personally, I'd like him to resign, no matter how nice a guy he is. Whatever way they spin this story about gift money, its still smells unscrupulous. You dont get something for nothing in this world and where there's smoke there's always fire.
Unfortunately, I think we'll gravitate to that same old IRISHY sentiment of "Ahh sure what harm?" that same old attitude that has fostered the most incompetent management teams in the health service, NRA and education and a deluge of the most energy wasteful boxy houses in Europe..etc etc
