Should I scrap or repair my car?

2004 polo, involved in an accident, whole front bonnet in a bad way + internal damage. Could cost €1700 to fix which is about the value of the car I'd say.

Would I be mad to repair it? Was running well enough. 100k miles on clock

I was in a similar situation with my car... insurance company paid for repairs and I was glad as I didnt want to buy a new car.

I think if you've been thinking of buying a new car, then defo use the money towards it.

But if you are only going to be getting another old, second hand car... what you need to consider is, what would 1700e get you?
You like the 2004 VW Polo. What's the price for one with 100k on the clock with an NCT?
Is it more or less than 1700e? If it's more... then surely it makes sense to repair.

Worth about €1700 I'd say. My other options are:

1. Rent a car as I actually probably only need one for 7 months or so
2. Buy a new car

Not great on cars.

But 100KM is a lot.

Car is 10 years old, you've got your money's worth.

It's heading to end of car lifetime, and beginning of major problems.

You can use €1700 towards a better car.

Not worth repairing in my estimation.

That seems a high quote was it from a main dealer or a smaller garage? Modern cars should be able to do well over 10yrs and 100k.
